Psychotherapy for Teens and Young Adults
Parent Coaching
1.
Adolescent
Psychotherapy
Being a teenager is hard work. Psychotherapy helps teens discover themselves, and it gives them tools to manage the many challenges of growing up.
2.
Parent Coaching
Parenting is the loneliest job in the world, and parents deserve support. Coaching provides parents with essential information about adolescent development, strategies for being more effective with teens, and - perhaps most important - a sounding board. No, you're not crazy!
3.
Outdoor Therapy
Want to get teenagers to open up? Go for a walk, sit on a bench, stare at the water, wander along the beach. My office is located in the Presidio of San Francisco so I can meet with my teen clients outdoors, if they wish. Outdoor therapy is an effective way to get teens to relax and reflect.
4.
Mindfulness for Teens
One of the most useful skills for teenagers to practice is mindfulness. Being mindful helps teens regulate their emotions and develop self-awareness. By focusing on their breathing for just one minute, teens feel more in control and better equipped to manage their complicated lives.
My Approach

My goal working with teenagers and young adults is to encourage them to trust themselves. I guide them to reflect upon who they are, contemplate who they want to become, and then develop the skills to get there.

My goal working with parents is to serve as a field guide to adolescence and young adulthood, and then to help them feel better about being parents. You're doing a great job!

My
Experience
I have worked with teenagers and their parents, and young adults, for over 30 years in schools and in private practice, as a school counselor, health educator, Dean of Students, and most recently as the Head of an independent high school.
