The Teenage Brain
A Work In Progress

The Teenage Brain - The Teenage Brain really is different. It can be reactive, impulsive, obsessive, and self-absorbed. It can also be creative, expansive, generous, and hilarious. Understanding how the Teenage Brain works allows me to help teens - and their parents - understand what's going on, and to make sense of all the ups and downs.

Stress - Many of the teens I work with are extremely high functioning, and yet school - and life - cause them to feel anxious or depressed. High-functioning adolescents often feel pressure to perform, especially around academics, athletics, and getting into college. Helping teens under pressure learn how to regulate their emotions and manage stress sets them up for success as they prepare to launch into the world.

Neuro-diversity - Every teenage brain learns differently, but certain differences can make learning a challenge. I help teenagers who have learning differences navigate their school environments and social worlds. Conditions such as Dyslexia, Executive Functioning issues, and Autism Spectrum Disorder all may conspire to make teens feel bad about themselves and alone, anxious, and depressed. Solution-focused Psychotherapy can help.

You're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
